Gmail, Siri, and "state of the art" AI...

At this point in time, everyone is producing AI-flavored everything. Your bike is now developing an opinion on how your pedaling is going and whether it is fluid enough in relation to your personal neuromuscular profile. Your washing machine is probably trying to write a PhD thesis on the proper mix of soap and temperature to clean your socks. And let’s not forget your car, which is desperately trying to drive itself while insisting it won’t kill too many people along the way.

I’m not sure these are all problems I have.

What I do know is that someone should start helping me dig through my bloody emails—rapidly and precisely. That’s the only thing I want.

Give me access to an AI tool that can sift through thousands upon thousands of threaded conversations, attachments, and ‘reply all’ inanities in the blink of an eye. One that lets me ask questions like:

  • “Hey, what did we finally decide when we talked about project X three weeks ago?”
  • “Hey, fetch all my airline invoices from last year and consolidate them into a file sorted by month.”
  • “Hey, list by priority the people I should call back who haven’t replied to an email offer in the past two months.”

One can dream.

For now, the state of the art is (I kid you not):

With this update, the emails you’re looking for are far more likely to be at the top of your search results—saving you valuable time and helping you find important information more easily.
Gmail’s upgraded search results help you find the emails you want, faster.
If you’ve ever struggled with finding information in your overflowing inbox, you’re not alone. That’s why Gmail is rolling out a smarter search feature powered by AI to …

I'm not using Gmail, but still, this is state-of-the-art AI in 2025?

Not to mention that Siri is still incapable of telling you what month it is.

While we worry about AI, Siri can’t answer ‘what month is it?’
Apple recently confirmed the delay of the new “more personalized” Siri, which was teased last year at WWDC 2024. And…

I don't know about you but it feels harder and harder to reconcile the cold reality of AI right now and the golden future we are promised.
